Georgia State Patrol trooper charged with DUI after Monroe County crash
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office incident report says Roger Graydon was found in the driver’s seat of a pickup in a ditch on Georgia 42 North.
FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed a Georgia State Patrol trooper is charged with DUI after a crash on Georgia 42 North in Monroe County.
An incident report provided by the sheriff’s office identifies the man as 31-year-old Roger Immanuel Graydon. The incident happened Sunday, August 2, on Georgia 42 North near Faulkner Road in Forsyth.
According to the report, a deputy was dispatched around 5:44 a.m. in reference to an auto accident. Dispatch advised that the male subject sounded impaired while speaking by telephone.
When the deputy arrived, the report says a white Toyota Tundra was in a ditch on the right side of the road, facing northbound traffic. Graydon was found in the driver’s seat.
The deputy wrote that Graydon said he was OK and did not need medical treatment. According to the report, Graydon told the deputy, “I’m okay. I just fell asleep at the steering wheel and failed to maintain my lane.”
The deputy reported that Graydon’s speech was slurred and that there was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from him.
According to the report, Graydon told the deputy he had consumed “a couple drinks” and said they were mixed drinks containing Jack Daniel’s whiskey about two hours earlier.
The report says Graydon declined to submit to standardized field sobriety testing, and based on the totality of the circumstances, the deputy determined Graydon was less safe to operate a motor vehicle and placed him under arrest.
Graydon was taken to Monroe County Hospital for a state-administered blood test. The report says hospital staff collected a blood sample around 6:48 a.m.
Graydon was then taken to the Monroe County Jail for booking.
He was charged with DUI less safe alcohol and failure to maintain lane, according to the incident report.
