Georgia Parole Board denies clemency for Stacey Humphreys
Humphreys is scheduled to be executed Sept. 16 at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.
ATLANTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The State Board of Pardons and Paroles has denied clemency for condemned inmate Stacey Humphreys following a meeting to review his case.
The board said it thoroughly considered the facts and circumstances of the case before reaching its decision.
Humphreys is scheduled to be executed Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson. The Superior Court of Cobb County issued the execution order.
Humphreys convicted of two murders
Humphreys was convicted of the 2003 murders of Cyndi Williams and Lori Brown in Cobb County.
At his 2007 trial, a jury found Humphreys guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery, and kidnapping with bodily injury. The jury imposed the death sentence.
The Georgia Parole Board has the sole constitutional authority to grant clemency in a death penalty case.
According to the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles, the board maintains a comprehensive file on each death row inmate. The file includes the inmate’s life history, criminal history and information about the circumstances of the crime that resulted in the death sentence.
The board reviews that file before the clemency meeting. Its decision follows consideration of the information and material received during the meeting.
