Georgia officially names Mel Tucker defensive coordinator

ATHENS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – UGA head football coach Kirby Smart announced Tuesday Mel Tucker will be the Dawgs’ defensive coordinator.

Tucker, like Smart, leaves Tuscaloosa for Athens. Tucker joined the Crimson Tide in 2015 as assistant head coach and defensive backs coach. Before Alabama, he spent seven years (2013-14 Chicago Bears, 2009-12 Jacksonville Jaguars, 2008 Cleveland Browns) as a defensive coordinator in the NFL.
