Georgia blanks Florida on Day 1 of Little League Southeast Region Softball Tournament

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Team Georgia is off to a hot start in the Little League Southeast Region Tournament.

The girls from Pioneer Little League in Columbus blanked Florida (St. Cloud LL) in Thursday’s opening round, 8-0, behind a solid pitching performance by Raelee Weaver.  Weaver pitched six innings, allowing just one hit and recording 10 strikeouts.

Leading 1-0 in the fourth, Georgia added a second run on a fielder’s choice.  A bases loaded walk made it 3-0, and then Jada Chadwick’s 3-RBI triple stretched the lead to six.  Two wild pitches by Florida allowed Georgia to plate two more runs before the inning was complete.

Georgia plays Tennessee (Clarksville LL) Friday at 2.  Tennessee beat West Virginia (Moorefield) 12-2 Thursday.
