GDC: Telfair State Prison inmate dies after altercation

A GDC spokesperson said Timothy Wilson died on Sunday.

MCRAE-HELENA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An inmate at Telfair State Prison died on Sunday after an altercation with another inmate, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.

In an email Thursday, a spokesperson said Timothy Wilson’s body was turned over to the county coroner and will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab to determine his official cause of death.

The GDC’s Office of Professional Standards is investigating.

According to GDC, Wilson was sentenced to 20 years for aggravated assault out of Cherokee County. He had a maximum release date of September 2028.
