GC baseball’s Logan Mattix named PBC Freshman of the Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. (GC ATHLETICS) – Freshman Logan Mattix (Loganville) of the Georgia College baseball team (23-15, 11-10 PBC) has been named the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) AstroTurf Freshman of the Week for the week of April 5-April 12.

Mattix broke through this past week, raising his batting average from .265 to .300 by going 7-for-16 over four games, including a huge 4-for-5 game against Lander University last Saturday. Mattix hit an RBI single in the eighth and a two-run home run in the ninth to help push the Bobcats over the top. He also contributed in an 11-inning showdown with Lander on Sunday, scoring twice with four walks.

Mattix is the third Bobcat on the baseball team to be named PBC Freshman of the Week, with Cameron Busby (Grovetown) and Brandon Purcell (Glennville) earning the honors in March. Bobcats have now won this award nine times all-time. Georgia College is the only school to have earned this award thrice this season.

Mattix will suit up with Bobcats on Wednesday April 15 for the Bobcats Against Hunger Night in a home matchup with Valdosta State University. The game is at 5 p.m. at John Kurtz Field.
