FVSU beats Paine on homecoming weekend
FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Fort Valley State relied on two non-offensive plays to pull away from Paine and beat the Lions 23-10 in front of a packed house at homecoming.
FVSU (6-2, 4-1 SIAC) scored late in the first half to take a 14-10 lead into the locker room. Late in the third quarter, it drove deep into Paine’s red zone but was turned away on fourth down.
The Wildcats’ defense stood tall on the Lions’ next drive, as Billy Sparks sacked the quarterback in the end zone for a safety to push the score to 16-10.
Paine (1-7, 0-4) had the ball late in the fourth quarter with a chance to tie the game, but FVSU’s Michael Lee intercepted a pass and returned it 77 yards for the score to extend the Wildcats’ lead.
FVSU ends its regular season Saturday, November 1 against Morehouse (4-4, 2-3) in Atlanta.
