Fort Valley to open warming station at Austin Theater during cold snap

The Austin Theater will serve as a warming station beginning Friday evening through Monday afternoon.

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The City of Fort Valley will open a warming station this weekend as cold weather moves into Middle Georgia.

Mayor Shakeena B. Reeves announced Thursday that the city will open the Austin Theater as a warming station for residents in need of shelter from the cold.

The warming station will be located at 116 E. Main Street in Fort Valley and will be open beginning Friday, January 23, at 5 p.m. The site will remain open through Monday, January 26, at 5 p.m.

The space will be open to the public.

The city is also accepting donations to support those using the warming station. Requested items include food, toiletries, hygiene kits, blankets, socks, coats and other essential items.
