FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The City of Forsyth has issued a boil water advisory for several areas following a water main break on Old Brent Road that caused low water pressure in parts of the system.

The advisory, issued Thursday afternoon, affects Hubbard Elementary School, Old Brent Road, Moreland Road, Marshall Road, Annie Reeves Road and areas south of Annie Reeves Road.

According to the city, the loss of pressure can create a potential health hazard when pressure drops to very low levels. Officials say low pressure increases the risk of contaminants entering the water system through backflow or back-siphonage.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to boil all tap water before using it for drinking, cooking, washing food, brushing teeth, making ice or preparing baby formula. The city says water should be brought to a rolling boil and allowed to boil for at least one minute, then cooled before use. Bottled water may also be used.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends using boiled or bottled water for pets during a boil water advisory. Other household uses, such as washing clothes or doing dishes, can be done without boiling water if done properly.

City officials say the advisory will remain in effect until water testing confirms the system is safe for consumption. Once the advisory is lifted, residents should flush all faucets for at least two minutes before using tap water for drinking or food preparation.

Anyone with questions is asked to contact the City of Forsyth at (478) 994-5649.
