Former WaCo standout granted release from UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (41NBC/WMGT) – The University of North Carolina will allow former Washington County High School star Allisha Gray to talk with other schools about transferring.

During her sophomore season, Gray led the Tar Heels in scoring (15.8 points per game) and was second in rebounds (7.8 per game), according to a school release.

“I love Allisha Gray and all the wonderful things she brings to our program,” UNC head coach Sylvia Hatchell said in a statement. “My hope is that she makes a decision that is best for her and her family. She is a wonderful young lady and it’s been a privilege these past two years to coach her and hope to continue to do that in the future.”

If Gray does leave, she’d be the third transfer from the team’s No. 1-ranked 2013 recruiting class.
