Former Macon Mayor C. Jack Ellis qualifies to run for Tax Commissioner

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Former Macon Mayor C. Jack Ellis is running for tax commissioner in Macon-Bibb County.

He and several others qualified for positions on the last day to register.

It takes confidence to run for an elected office.

“I feel like I’m qualified and prepared to fulfill the duties of this office,” Ellis said.

That ‘s exactly how several candidates felt as they qualified to run for their positions on Friday.

“I look at crime and I look at the things that create poverty in this community. It’s directly related to education,” Bibb County school board candidate Jerome Collins said.

Ellis tells 41NBC he considered running for mayor and sheriff before he and his family thought it best to run for tax commissioner.

“There’s an awesome responsibility in that office and I look forward to filling that responsibility,” he said.

May 24th is the general election.
