Flash Flooding Drenches Northeast As More Storms Threaten

(CNN)- Communities across the Northeast are cleaning up after days of heavy rain triggered dangerous flash flooding, with more storms expected to bring additional rainfall to already saturated areas.

In New Jersey, flooded roads resembled rivers as rising water stranded vehicles and damaged homes and businesses. Residents reported appliances submerged by floodwaters as cleanup efforts began.

Millions of people across the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and southern New England have been affected by the severe weather, which has produced widespread flash flooding over the past several days.

In Harwinton, Connecticut, residents described powerful storms that snapped trees and left neighborhoods littered with debris. Some homes have been without electricity for at least two days.

Officials warn the threat is not over, with additional rounds of rain expected in parts of the region that have already experienced significant flooding.

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill said the state’s Office of Emergency Management has been activated and is working with all 21 counties and hundreds of municipalities as recovery efforts continue.

Authorities are urging residents to avoid flooded roadways and remain alert as additional storms move through the region.
