Fire at Macon hotel causes evacuation

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A fire Monday night at a Macon hotel forced occupants outside the building.

It happened just after 7 at Palm Tree Inn Extended Stay on Riverside Drive.

The fire appears to have started outside the back of the hotel, but part of the exterior of the building suffered damage from the flames.

A firefighter on scene tells 41NBC the blaze was out by the time the Macon-Bibb Fire Department arrived.

We also spoke with a man staying at the hotel.

“The fire alarms went off, so we all went out in the front and saw the smoke coming out of the roof,” Donald Adams says.  “It looked like it was coming out of the building at first.  It was just adrenaline–worried about getting out of there, being safe.”

There are no injuries and there’s no word yet on what started the fire.
