Dublin police catch bank robbery suspect minutes after alleged heist

Police arrested Michael Allen Eden and charged him with armed robbery.

According to Dublin Police Chief Wayne Cain, Eden walked into the Capital City Bank on Veterans Boulevard at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Eden gave the teller a note. He demanded cash and threatened to use an explosive device he had in a box.

Once Eden had the undisclosed amount of money, he ran out the rear door with the device and into a wooded area behind the bank, according to police. That is where he ran into Dublin Police Officer Desire Shaver who took him into custody. Shaver and Officer Cody McCrath were on bike patrol when they heard the bank robbery call, Chief Cain told 41NBC.

“He [Eden] had already crossed a creek,” continued Cain. “He was able to take off some of his clothing that he’d previously had on during the robbery and was actually wearing a jacket that indicated he was a security guard.”

Another officer on patrol, Rico Parks caught up with them in the woods. Eden was captured five minutes after the alleged bank heist, said Cain.

“When they apprehended him there was a box that had wires protruding from it, that could be considered an explosive device,” explained the police chief. “So we took all precautions and we left everything where it was.”

The GBI bomb squad determined the device was a fake explosive, which had a battery inside similar to one used in a computer, said Cain.

When Eden was taken into custody in the woods he did not have any cash on him, according to police. Eden told investigators he fell into the creek which was deeper than he though it was and lost the money in the water.

“They actually carried him back out there and he told them that the money was not in the creek and he showed them where he had hid the money in the woods,” explained the police chief.

Cain says he is proud of his officers and their quick apprehension of the bank robbery suspect.

“Hopefully, you’ll never have a bank robbed but if it is this is the outcome you want,” said Cain. “Nobody hurt, you got the money recovered, and the suspect is in jail.”

Eden has a South Carolina driver’s license which shows a Hanahan, South Carolina address. But according to Cain, Eden told investigators he lives in Eagles Mobile Home Park in Dublin.
