UPDATE: Tucker Road bridge over I-475 back open after Monday crash
The Tucker Road bridge reopened Thursday night after a crash Monday damaged nearby power poles and lines and knocked out power for thousands.

UPDATE (4/10 – 8:15 p.m.): The Tucker Road bridge over I-475 reopened Thursday night after a crash Monday damaged nearby power poles and lines and knocked out power for thousands. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the bridge remained closed multiple days while power crews made repairs, forcing drivers to find alternate routes.
The closure came as two other bridges in Macon—the Second Street bridge over Riverside Drive and the Bass Road bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad—remain closed.
The Second Street bridge was damaged by a crash last week and is closed indefinitely, according to GDOT. The Bass Road bridge remains closed until the summer as crews complete its reconstruction.
UPDATE (4/8 – 6:15 p.m.): The Tucker Road bridge over I-475 remains closed Tuesday night after Monday night’s crash. At this point, there is no determined timetable for its reopening.
41NBC reached out to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to check on the status. A spokesperson said they’re still in discussions with the contractor about repairs and that they don’t have a timeframe to share just yet.
Check back for updates.
UPDATE (4/8 – 6:30 a.m.): Deputies say further investigation revealed the vehicle that crashed Monday night was being towed along with another vehicle on the back of a trailer.
According to an updated news release, the driver was found and had pulled over when he noticed one of the vehicles was detached from the trailer by low hanging power lines.
The driver was not charged.
All lanes of I-475 reopened just before 4 a.m.
ORIGINAL STORY (4/8 – 12 a.m.):
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A vehicle crashed off the Tucker Road bridge and hit a power pole on Interstate 475 North late Monday night, shutting down the interstate and leading to a search for the driver, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release.
“All north and southbound lanes are currently closed as this incident is investigated,” the release stated. Deputies are asking drivers to avoid the area due to downed power lines.
The crash was reported to the Macon-Bibb E-911 Center just before 11 p.m. Deputies responded and found the vehicle off the roadway, but the driver was not at the scene.
While the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed a link between the crash and the outages, Georgia Power’s online outage map showed more than 3,000 customers in the area—including much of the Lake Wildwood neighborhood—were without electricity.
“An outage has been reported in your area,” the outage message states. “We are working to determine a restoration time.”
Anyone with information about the crash should call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at (478) 751-7500 and ask to speak with an investigator.
