Downtown Macon’s French Fry Fight returns with 22 restaurants competing for Super Spud Trophy
The fifth annual French Fry Fight is underway, with 22 local restaurants competing for the coveted Super Spud Trophy through July 12.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Downtown Macon is once again celebrating one of its most popular summer food events.
Hosted by NewTown Macon, the event invites customers to visit participating restaurants during regular business hours, order each location’s featured fry creation and vote for their favorite.
“We’re back with French Fry Fight. This is our fifth year,” said Haley Purvis, digital content manager for NewTown Macon. “We have 22 businesses that are going to be serving up their best fry creations, so we have savory options. We have some sweet options so you can expect a little bit of everything.”
Last year’s champion was Macon Water Ice, which won with its Buffalo Mac Fries. This year, former two-time winner Cashman’s Pub is hoping to reclaim the title.
Among this year’s entries is Biddy’s Smash Burger Loaded Fry.
“This year we decided we would go with a loaded smash burger fry,” said Biddy’s Manager Jessie Lowe. “We have a really good burger. We made our own special sauce, which is just a spin on our Biddy sauce.”
Cashman’s Pub is taking a different approach with its Eagles Nest Berry Fries, a sweet-and-savory dish inspired by Georgia Southern University.
“The Eagles Nest Berry Fries? A lot of us went to Georgia Southern University, so we got inspiration from Georgia Southern, whose mascot is an eagle,” Executive Chef Reginald Perkins said. “We did funnel cake fries… with fried chicken and strawberries and a strawberry syrup and powdered sugar top.”
After sampling entries from both restaurants, Cashman’s Pub’s Eagles Nest Berry Fries stood out with their unique combination of crispy funnel cake fries, fried chicken, strawberries and powdered sugar.
Beyond the trophy, the winning restaurant also earns bragging rights for the next year.
“It is the Super Spud Trophy and so they get bragging rights all year long,” Purvis said. “It’s a Mr. Potato Head. It’s golden. It’s got their name on the plaque.”
The French Fry Fight runs through July 12, which also coincides with National French Fry Day. Organizers encourage diners to check restaurant hours before planning their fry crawl.
