Dooly County Sheriff passes away
VIENNA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Dooly County Sheriff Van Peavy died early Tuesday morning, January 6.
According to County Coroner Marvin Bowen, 78-year-old Peavy fell at his home yesterday afternoon around 4:00 p.m.
He was taken to the hospital by EMS where he underwent surgery and later died around 3:42 a.m.
According to officials at the county’s commissioners office, since there isn’t a chief deputy, a probate court judge has three days to appoint an interim sheriff.
A special election will take place on March 17 to replace on Peavy.
Peavy has been the Dooly County Sheriff since 1985.
