Daycare worker faces child abuse charges
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Karina Bonner faces eight counts of cruelty to six children while working at Coliseum Child’s Play in Macon.
As of Wednesday, Bonner is out on bond.
“I’ve seen her yank, push, shove, grab, slap…children,” Nicholas McCane of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said. He’s the lead investigator in the case.
Bonner, 30, had no criminal history.
An incident report from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says a mother picked up her son from the daycare center on June 29. Her son had bruises and fingernail imprints on his arm.
That’s when McCane looked at video footage from inside Coliseum Child’s Play.
“I watched one day in particular it was June 29th,” McCane said. “On that day I watched 194 videos. Of the 194 videos there was 11 videos that caught my attention.”
A worker at Coliseum Child’s Play says Bonner was loved by the kids – they called her Ms. Re-Re. The worker said they’re hurting right now, but the most important thing is Bonner no longer works there.
The daycare center is not affiliated with Coliseum Medical Centers.
Reg Griffin with the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning says Bonner passed a background check but advises parents and daycare businesses to conduct their own research into childcare worker’s social media accounts.
The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning opened it’s own investigation into the case, which is still ongoing.
