23 dogs seized in Crawford County dog fighting investigation
The Georgia Department of Agriculture says investigators also seized firearms, suspected marijuana and suspected methamphetamine.

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A man was arrested after a joint investigation into illegal dog fighting in Crawford County led to the seizure of 23 dogs, firearms and suspected drugs, according to the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J. Harper announced the arrest of Robert James Hester.
The Georgia Department of Agriculture says its Law Enforcement Division worked with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and Peach County SWAT in the investigation.
According to the department, state and federal search warrants were executed Wednesday, June 24.
Investigators seized 23 dogs believed to have been used for fighting, multiple firearms, suspected marijuana and suspected methamphetamine, according to the department.
“The Georgia Department of Agriculture has zero tolerance for illegal dog fighting and the cruelty it inflicts on animals,” Harper said. “This investigation not only led to the rescue of 23 dogs believed to have been used for fighting, but also uncovered multiple firearms, and suspected narcotics. We remain committed to working alongside our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to investigate these crimes, protect animal welfare, and hold those who violate the law accountable. I want to thank each of our law enforcement partners for their coordinated efforts and unwavering commitment to protecting Georgians.”
Hester is charged with possession of firearms by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of tools for the commission of a crime and possession of methamphetamine, according to the department.
The department says Hester also faces federal charges related to alleged illegal dog fighting and firearms violations.
He remains in the Crawford County Jail without bond.
