MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Not a lot going on at the moment. A frontal boundary that went through the area Monday has stalled across South Georgia. This old boundary will begin Screenshot 2026 06 16 043058Screenshot 2026 06 16 040148Screenshot 2026 06 16 040207Screenshot 2026 06 16 040235

to make its way back northward with precipitation chances increasing. Current radar loop shows a line of showers and thunderstorms across South Georgia moving slowly northeast. Expect  precipitation chances to increase from southwest to northeast with showers expected into the Columbus/Macon areas by early morning and push into the Atlanta area just after sunrise. We should just see showers in the morning with thunderstorms developing by late morning/early afternoon. The boundary appears to stall again somewhere between Atlanta and Macon  Tuesday Screenshot 2026 06 16 040253Screenshot 2026 06 16 043031

into Wednesday acting as a guide for increased moisture return across the state into the extended periods. With this system we don’t expect much in precipitation amounts  (around 1 inch over the next 1 to 2 days) the better precipitation amounts will move across the area later this week. Low temps tonight will dip down into the middle 50s to middle 60s. Highs today will be mainly in the 70s with some lower 80s across east central portions of the state. Beginning Wednesday, all eyes will be on an area of interest in the Gulf by late Wednesday into Thursday. Models continue to diverge on whether the system develops or not. The potential for tropical moisture moving over the state is increasing. Moisture values of two inches or more appears possible by Thursday a swath of tropical moisture moves over the region. While we are still a few days away, it is important to understand that regardless of any tropical storm development, heavy rain chances continue to increase across much of the state for Thursday and  Friday.  Temperatures are expected to remain near normal through much of the period given the increase in precipitation probability and cloud cover. Some days temperatures could even be below  average.
