Construction begins to repair overpass over I-16 East in Dublin

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Construction to repair the HWY 441 bridge over I-16 East in Dublin is beginning Monday, after a tractor trailer carrying a piece of equipment damaged the bridge in July.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) entered a contract for $830,000 with Gregory Bridge Company for the repair. According to GDOT, work may close both I-16 eastbound lanes near Exit 51 occasionally. Those closures are allowed for 20 days between 7:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. beginning on Sept. 5.

GDOT says if both eastbound lanes are closed,  I-16 drivers will detour to the off-ramp at Exit 51 and back onto the interstate via the on-ramp.

The right southbound lane of US 441, which was also damaged during the truck accident, will remain closed through the repair process.

Work won’t happen during the Labor Day Holiday travel period.
