Comeback ends in overtime win for Bobcat men, 76-68

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (GC ATHLETICS RELEASE) – Trailing by as many as 18 points in the second half, the Georgia College men’s basketball team (6-2) tied it at the end of regulation, then dominated overtime for a 76-68 victory at Fort Valley State University (0-6) Saturday night.

The Bobcats used a 25-6 run over a 10-minute stretch of the second half to take a lead with 1:48 left. After the teams traded baskets and free-throws, the game remained tied 61-61 for the final 1:05. Georgia College surrendered just three made shots in the overtime period to pull off the win.

Junior guards Dwight Anderson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) and Terrell Harris (Indiantown, Florida) each scored five points in the extra frame to lead the Bobcats. Harris finished with a team-high 20 points and 10 rebounds, his second double-double this season. Anderson managed 13 points by the final horn.

Senior Larrentis Thomas (McDonough) was back to seeing double, netting 14 points with 13 rebounds after having a four-game streak of double-doubles snapped last contest. Junior guard Ryan Blumenthal (Kennesaw) knocked down a pair of threes en route to 13 points.

The Bobcats were out-shot 37 percent (26-70) to 40 percent (23-57), but made up for it by nearly halving FVSU’s turnovers, taking away 20 while only giving up 11.

Wildcat guard Derrick Spear led all scorers with 24 points, aided by 14 from D’Areial Franklin and a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double from Tyrone Brinson.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Dec. 13 at 4 p.m., traveling to Anderson University.
