Candidate for the Macon Water Authority announces plan to help prevent sewage spills

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A candidate for the Macon Water Authority (MWA) announced today a five-point plan to help improve the city’s response to sewer spills.

Dwight Jones held a news conference this afternoon to detail his plan to his constituents. The plan calls for the MWA to have a strong social media presence, an automated phone system to notify residents as well as large signs posted letting anyone know of spills in their area. Jones also calls for letting media outlets know as soon as possible, and having a hotline people can contact for further information.

“The Water Authority has really tried diligently and done a great job in identifying and preventing many sewer spills,” Jones said, “The Water Authority even now has allocated some $45 million towards sewer improvements as far as eliminating spills over the next five years.”

Jones conceded that sewer spills are inevitable, and hopes his plan will help the MWA tackle any problems more efficiently.

If you have questions about his plan, Jones encourages residents to contact him directly at

Jones is running for the District 3 seat, with elections set to be held on May 20th.
