Canada-based company set to bring 200 jobs to Macon
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Canadian company is calling Macon home. Irving Consumer Products, a privately owned company, announced Wednesday morning it is expanding its company to Macon-Bibb.
Irving is a leading manufacturer of household paper products, diapers and training pants, in North America. The company makes brands like Royale and Scotties.
“Over 330,000 jobs in the state depend on trade and investment with Canada, and today we are proud to add to that total right here in Macon,” said Co-CEO, Robert Irving.
The Macon plant is set to open at the Sofkee Industrial Park, near Kumho Tire, in 2019. The $400 million investment is expected to bring 200 jobs.
Irving says the company looked at 60 other locations throughout North America, but decided to bring business to Macon because of the people.
” I think the warmth, the positive pouring of welcome from the people here and their passion for their community, really set Macon apart,” said Irving.
Among federal, state and local officials that attended the announcement at the Macon Terminal Station, was Governor Nathan Deal.
“In fiscal year 2017 alone, there have been 14 economic projects located in this community and surrounding regions and those represent at least 774 new jobs,” said Governor Deal.
Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross also traveled to Macon to welcome the new company.
The Macon-Bibb Industrial Authority worked for months to bring what they called “Project Bengal”.
“I’m absolutely ecstatic that we can bring this lovely company to our citizens that workforce fits perfectly,” said MBCIA Chairman, Cliffard Whitby. “These are head of household jobs and I think it only gets better from here.”
Irving Consumer Products employs 15,000 people in the United States and Canada. Macon will add to that number in 2019.
