Gray lifts boil water advisory, schools to reopen Wednesday

GRAY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The City of Gray has lifted its boil water advisory following a water main break that disrupted water service, closed schools and impacted local businesses.

Jones County Water Systems shared the city’s announcement Tuesday, saying conditions are improving and water service is returning to normal. Some areas around Gray may continue to experience lower-than-normal water pressure.

Jones County Schools also announced students and staff will return to school Wednesday, September 23. Schools were closed Monday and Tuesday because reliable water service was not available.

The water issues began Sunday following a water main break. Several local restaurants and businesses were also forced to close while the boil water advisory was in effect.

Crews with the City of Gray, Jones County and Georgia Rural Water worked to resolve the water issues.

Jones County Water Systems encouraged residents to support restaurants and other local businesses affected by the outage as operations return to normal.

The county water system said it shared the update to help the City of Gray get the information out to the public and does not have additional information beyond the city’s announcement.
