Bobcat men fall at division leader Montevallo, 87-74

MONTEVALLO, Ala. (GC ATHLETICS) – A 21-point performance from Dwight Anderson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) and another Larrentis Thomas (McDonough, Georgia) double-double weren’t enough, as the Georgia College men’s basketball team (8-6, 2-3 PBC) fell at 2014 NCAA Regional Finalist University of Montevallo (9-6, 5-0 PBC) 87-74 Wednesday.

A back-and-forth ballgame that featured 17 lead changes and three ties, neither team held a double-digit advantage until the 6:11 mark in the second half.

Anderson scored 13 of his 21 in the first half, and was a large part of the reason for just a one-point halftime deficit of 44-43. The junior hit 5-of-8 from the field in the first frame, including three from long range. The 20-point performance was Anderson’s fourth this season, but the first since scoring 21 against Albany State University Dec. 2.

Thomas had 13 points and 10 rebounds for his double-double, the senior’s seventh this season. Junior guard Terrell Harris (Indiantown, Florida) scored 19 points, his 11th double-digit scoring game this year.

The Bobcats were out-shot 50 percent (32-64) to 47 percent (27-57) from the field and out-rebounded 41-31, just the fifth time this season.

All-American Troran Brown led all scorers with 29 points, aided by 13 from Shykeem Jackson and 11 each from Ryan May and Malik Fields.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Jan. 10 at 3:30 p.m., ending a seven-game road stretch by hosting Columbus State University.
