Blumenthal nets 20 in 85-70 loss for GC basketball

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GC ATHLETICS) – Despite 20 points from Ryan Blumenthal (Kennesaw) and four total double-digit scorers, the Georgia College men’s basketball team (9-12, 3-9 PBC) dropped an 85-70 decision to Francis Marion University (10-11, 2-10 PBC) Saturday at the Centennial Center.

Blumenthal knocked down five threes in the first half, helping Georgia College keep pace with the Patriots, down just five at the break, 45-40. The Bobcats cooled off in the second half, shooting just 33 percent (10-30) while the Patriots pushed away.

Senior Larrentis Thomas (McDonough) added 16 points, while Terrell Harris (Indiantown, Florida) added 13 and Dwight Anderson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) tallied 10. Harris has scored in double-digits for eight straight contests.

The Bobcats were edged slightly in shooting 46 percent (27-59) to 41 percent (24-59), but the Patriots had a big advantage in rebounding, 44-29, including a 14-9 advantage on the offensive glass.

Francis Marion was led by 28 points from Dii’Jon Allen-Jordan, including 12-of-14 from the charity stripe. He added 13 boards for a double-double.

The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m., hosting GRU Augusta.
