MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A 47-year-old missing woman who walked away from a personal care home Wednesday morning was found safe by Bibb County deputies and K-9 Rex, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office first shared the rescue in a Facebook post on Thursday, saying deputies found the woman, who suffers from memory loss and was unfamiliar with the area, at the edge of a retention pond after a search involving multiple divisions. The post said K-9 Rex tracked her to the pond, where deputies found her cold, wet and barefoot before calling EMS to take her to a hospital.
In a follow-up email to 41NBC, Public Affairs Sgt. Christopher Williams provided additional details.
He said the woman was reported missing at 11 a.m. Wednesday after leaving a Davis Street personal care home around 8 a.m. Williams said units from Patrol, SRT/K9 Interdiction, CID Violent Crime, and the Gang Unit searched nearby neighborhoods. K-9 Rex tracked the woman through a wooded area near Freedom Park and ultimately to a retention pond off Roff Avenue. Deputies turned her over to paramedics.
“She’s safe,” Williams wrote.
