The Bibb County Sheriff's Office is finding new ways to reach children.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is finding new ways to reach children.
The Sheriff’s Office Outreach Section is hosting free basketball camps this month for boys and girls ages 9-17 at the Rosa Jackson Center, which is located at 1211 Maynard Street.
Jr. Lt. Chris Dunn says the sheriff’s office wants to be able to provide children with something fun to do.
Dunn says the sheriff’s office wanted to change it up a bit this year after the camps were canceled due to the pandemic in 2020.
“We wanted to provide them also basic basketball skills and also intervention with us, and also knowing that the sheriff’s department is here for them and facets of having fun,” Dunn said.
The first week of the program, June 7-11, is for girls only, while the second, from June 14-18, is for boys. The program runs Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The students are being taught basketball skills including offensive fundamentals, shooting and ball handling.
There are still spots available, so if you would like to sign your child up, you can do so by calling (478) 803-2710.
