Bibb County Sheriff looks at body camera options

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County sheriff’s deputies could get body cameras in the near future.

Sheriff David Davis met with the department’s taser vendor to talk about the different kinds of body cameras he could purchase. Davis says this is just one step in the process. The sheriff is also trying to develop a body camera policy and rework the budget to make sure they have enough money for the new equipment.

Sheriff David Davis shared some of the key parts of the body camera policy with 41NBCy.

“Exactly when they will be used, under what conditions, how we’re going to store the video that we’re going to get from that, how long we’re going to keep the video on file,” said Sheriff Davis.

The sheriff says he’s looking into using confiscated money to pay for the cameras. His goal is to have the body cameras out in the field by late summer.
