Newest Bibb County school zone cameras to begin issuing citations October 13

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says the warning period for the new school zone cameras will end on October 3 and cameras will start issuing citations later this month.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says the warning period for the new school zone cameras will end Friday, and cameras will start issuing citations on October 13.

According to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release, the cameras will not issue tickets during Bibb County Schools’ fall break from October 6-10. Citations will resume on October 13.

According to the release, the cameras will only be active during school hours when flashing lights are on.

The latest batch of cameras are located at Northwoods Academy, Bruce Elementary, James H. Porter Elementary, John R. Lewis Elementary and Martin Luther King Elementary. Deputies first announced these cameras would be going live in late August, when they began a 30-day warning period.

The sheriff’s office urged drivers to slow down and follow the law in school zones. Deputies will also continue to monitor school zones.

Drivers are also reminded to stop for school buses with flashing lights and stop signs activated, watch for children at bus stops and be alert for students walking or biking near schools.

Deputies encourage parents to avoid loading or unloading children across busy streets and to plan ahead for heavy traffic during drop-off and pickup times.
