Bernd Park receives additions and is re-dedicated
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – You will notice a few additions to a downtown Macon Park, thanks to a community-funded expansion. Community members re-dedicated Bernd Park on the corner of Cherry, New and Magnolia Streets this Monday morning.
Neighbors say they wanted to see more green-space and more play equipment for children. There are new stairs into the park, better signage,
a slide, entrance archway and a refurbished swing set.
Family members of Gus Bernd say this is exactly what the park needed to match other revitalization efforts downtown.
“To people who want to contribute and give civilly and it’s nice to be in that family legacy, but it’s only inspiring to try and contribute to make it last even more generations,” Gus Bernd’s great-great-great granddaughter Mamie Dayan-Vogel said.
Funding for the project comes after the company “AnT Sculpture and Design” received two downtown challenge grants. Totaling $104,000. The Bernd family helped with funding as well.
