Beloved minister, boxing promoter passes away

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bishop Frank Ray, a minister and boxing promoter, passed away Monday at the age of 85, that is according to Macon-Bibb Commissioner Al Tillman.

Tillman was a friend of Ray’s. He called Ray wise, saying he was able to correctly predict the last several mayors. He also once told Tillman that he would one day be a city councilman.

Ray served as a mentor to much of the city’s youth. He ran the Middle Georgia Amateur Boxing Club before it was forced out of its downtown location at the start of the year. The goal of the county’s new boxing facility at Freedom Park is to continue what Ray started.
