Bears selected to Tallahassee Regional

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Mercer baseball team is headed to Tallahassee.

The Bears, who won the Southern Conference’s automatic bid Sunday by claiming the SoCon Tournament title, received the 4-seed and will face 1-seed Florida State Friday at 6.

“I think Tallahassee’s a great place,” says head baseball coach Craig Gibson from Buffalo Wild Wings in north Macon, where a Selection Show viewing party was held Monday. “We haven’t been there often. It’s going to be a great environment with their fans, so we’re excited to be a part of it.”

Mercer and FSU join 3-seed Auburn and 2-seed College of Charleston in the double elimination tournament. The Tigers and Cougars meet Friday at noon.

The regional winner will face the Gainesville regional winner in a best-of-three series in the Super Regionals. That winner advances to the College World Series.
