Bass Road paving to bring overnight delays in north Macon
Crews will repave Bass Road from Providence Boulevard to Zebulon Road during overnight hours.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Drivers should expect overnight road work on Bass Road beginning Monday as Macon-Bibb County continues repaving one of north Macon’s major roads.
Macon-Bibb County said in a news release Monday that crews will continue repaving Bass Road from Providence Boulevard to Zebulon Road starting Monday, June 1, at 7 p.m.
The county says paving will continue nightly until 6 a.m. for about six nights, or until the project is complete.
Drivers are asked to use caution, follow traffic signs and obey directions from crews working in the area.
The Bass Road work is part of Macon-Bibb County’s Paving the Way program, which began in summer 2025.
According to the county, 885 segments of 352 streets, totaling 119.8 miles, have been repaved since the program began. Another 62.1 miles have already been identified and bid out for repaving.
“The quality of our roads has been one of the most talked about daily issues people in Macon-Bibb face the past few years, so we are making an historical investment in improving roads across the entire county,” Mayor Lester Miller said. “Since we began the Paving the Way program this past summer, people have noticed a marked improvement in their daily commutes.”
County Manager Dr. Keith Moffett said the county worked with departments, partners, commissioners and the public to identify the worst roads and heavily traveled roads.
“I’m proud of the collaborative work of our departments, partners, Commissioners, and public to identify the worst roads in the county, as well as the most well-travelled roads, so we can have the greatest positive impact on people’s daily lives,” Moffett said.
Macon-Bibb says road projects are funded through the voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax and state Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant funds.
The county also says it will soon begin evaluating sidewalks through the Paving the Way program. StreetScan will create an inventory of sidewalks across Macon-Bibb and help identify areas needing repairs, improvements or accessibility upgrades.
