Atrium Health doctor shares back-to-school health tips for kids
Dr. Paritosh Kaul said one of the first priorities should be getting children back on a consistent sleep schedule.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — As students head back to the classroom, an Atrium Health doctor is encouraging families to reestablish healthy routines for the new school year.
Dr. Paritosh Kaul said one of the first priorities should be getting children back on a consistent sleep schedule. He recommends limiting phones and other devices about an hour before bedtime and giving children time to wind down.
Kaul also encouraged families to prioritize a healthy breakfast, hydration and nutritious foods. He said parents can help reinforce healthy habits by modeling them at home.
With hot weather continuing, Kaul said children should drink enough fluids and use sunscreen when spending time outside, including student-athletes.
He also encouraged parents not to wait to schedule sports physicals and to make sure their children’s vaccinations are up to date.
Kaul said addressing children’s health should be part of back-to-school preparation, along with purchasing clothes, books and other school supplies.
