Atlanta Motor Speedway announces 2013-2014 Winter Flurry Racing Series champions

HAMPTON, Ga. (AMS RELEASE) – Highlighted by a plethora of hotly contested races during the winter months, Atlanta Motor Speedway announced season points champions in its Legends and Bandolero Winter Flurry racing series on the Speedway’s quarter-mile “Thunder Ring.”

Champions were determined by accumulating points from seven different Winter Flurry feature events with their lowest finish of the season not counting in determining the standings. The season finale on April 19 was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The season champions in Bandolero racing divisions are Chandler Smith in Bandits and Ashton Winger in Outlaws. The Legends division champions are Woodrow Mullis in Young Lions, Taylor Jorgensen in Semi-Pro, Don Chandler in Masters and Madeline Crane in the Pro division.

Smith, of Talking Rock, won five-of-seven races claiming first place ahead of Lawson Ingold from Social Circle and Powersville’s Clay Thompson. Winger, from Fayetteville, won all but one race within the Outlaw division, edging Stockbridge’s Jensen Jorgensen for the championship.

In the Young Lions division, Mullis, from Hoboken, won all seven races en route to beating out Cartersville’s Zach Leonhardi for first place with Stockbridge’s Taylor Jorgensen taking the Semi-Pro title in front of Aaron Bailey of Burlington, N.C. and Bailey Woodall from McDonough.

Helped by two feature wins, Crane, of Meansville, won the Pro championship with Chandler’s Masters title coming thanks to not only winning three feature events, but also as a result of the Macon driver being the only Masters competitor with a top-five finish in each feature event. Chandler’s championship is his first at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Legends and Bandolero racing returns to Atlanta Motor Speedway on May 17 for the start of the annual summer Thursday Thunder racing series. Additional Thursday Thunder events are scheduled on June 5, June 12, June 19, June 25, June 26, July 3, July 10, July 17 and July 24.

Each week, Thursday Thunder will present an interactive experience for families and every Thursday event will feature an autograph session with competitors. Plus there will be contests and games for spectators to participate in while in the grandstands.

Tickets for the affordable, family-friendly racing series cost just $6 for adults, $2 for children ages 6 through 11 and free for children ages 5 and younger.
