Ask Angi: How to keep pests out of your home
Now that the weather is getting warmer, you may notice some uninvited guests in your home. Kevin Witt, owner of Witt Pest Control and Angi Pro is here to show you how to keep your home pest free. He’ll walk you through how to catch signs of a household pest issue early.
Most people realize they have a pest problem when they find bugs crawling across countertops or even in cabinets. According to Kevin, that’s not the only red flag you should be looking for. There are a few, more subtle signs that could mean you have a problem with fleas or bedbugs. If you wake up with a rash or itch, it may be time to investigate. The same goes for your pets.
Of course, some bugs are more interesting in feasting on your home than your fluffy friends. Keep a sharp eye out for damage to the drywall or any wood in your home. It could be a sign of termites.
If you do see signs of pests in your home, bring in a pro. Kevin recommends treating for pests regardless of signs every few months. Many of the pest control products last from 60 to 90 days, so you’ll need regular treatments for your home. Because pests are always trying to get in, prevention is key to keeping them out.
Are you dealing with a recurring pest problem? When dealing with pests, its important to get to the source of the issue. According to Kevin, stubborn pests often come back because the home owners have not found the root of the problem. Many home owners will try to get rid of pests, such as ants, on their own. They’ll use insecticides near their house, not knowing that the colony has a nest in a tree 200 yards from the home. Some people even damage their property in the process.
