UPDATE: Coroner identifies woman found on Marse Allen Road

Coroner Leon Jones says Smith’s family has been notified, but her cause of death and how she was identified have not been disclosed.

UPDATE (7/23/26): The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing. The sheriff’s office said the woman’s full name is Amber Leann Smith.

UPDATE (7/23/26): The woman found dead Sunday night inside a vacant home on Marse Allen Road has been identified as 31-year-old Amber Smith, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said Thursday.

Jones said Smith’s family had been notified. He said a cause of death has not been determined. He has not yet said how she was identified.

ORIGINAL STORY (7/19/26):

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — An unidentified woman was found dead Sunday night inside a vacant home on Marse Allen Road in Macon.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says the Macon-Bibb County E-911 Center received a call about the discovery shortly before 8 p.m.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says deputies found the woman inside a home at in the 3900 block of Marse Allen Road around 8:45 p.m. He says he pronounced her dead at 9:05 p.m.

Jones said the woman’s remains were in an advanced state of decomposition. Her identity and how long she had been inside the home have not been determined.

The sheriff’s office says its Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene Unit responded.

Jones says an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday at the GBI Crime Lab to help determine the woman’s identity and cause of death.
