Alpha Phi Alpha Elite helping to transform young men through mentoring program

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A group of men want to be positive role models for children hoping to help turn their lives around.

19-year-old Ramone Lowe says he participated in the Alpha Phi Alpha Elite Mentor Program and it he has helped him to turn his life around.

“I’m about to graduate and do something with my life,” says Lowe.

It wasn’t long ago school officials say they would have described Lowe as having a bad attitude and low grades, but this semester Lowe made all A’s with the exception of one B, and he consistently attends church, serving as an usher.

“Having young men exposed to other successful black men in the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and all of us are college graduates, from lawyers to doctors to engineers,” explained Bishop Milton Wynn of Greater Word Of Deliverance Ministries. “The mentor program gives those kids a view of what they can become.”

Wynn added many of the students in the Alpha Phi Alpha Elite Mentor Program have not only graduated from high school but have continued their education in college, using fraternity-awarded scholarships.
