Alleged copper thieves caught in the act

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It took an old fashion sting operation to catch people stealing copper wiring from a Milledgeville building.

Milledgeville Police arrested Dondis Ferguson and a juvenile during Tuesday’s sting operation.

They are accused of cutting fences, and destroying city property to get inside the old Shaw Textile building.

Major Reginald Hill says Ferguson and his accomplice have stolen nearly twenty thousand dollars worth of copper since December.

They are also accused of causing more than one hundred thousand dollars worth of damage to the city building.

“This has been a thorn in our side as a department, as a whole,” said Maj. Hill. “It’s kind of embarrassing at some point to know that, someone is coming inside your city and just committing this type of burglary over and, over and, over again.”

Hill says police also have surveillance video of the suspects breaking into the same building in the past.
