Academy Sports surprises Riley Elementary students with bikes

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The cafeteria at Riley Elementary School was buzzing with excitement as 30 students were surprised with bicycles Friday morning.

What they thought was a school assembly, turned out to be a whole lot more.

“I’m very happy for her, I’m happy for the rest of the kids, it’s a great opportunity,” parent Tequandra Singletary said about her daughter. “And she actually didn’t even ask for a bike but now she has one so that works out.”

Academy Sports + Outdoors chose Riley Elementary for its annual bike giveaway.

Not every student was given a bike – only the students with good grades, perfect attendance, and who have stayed out of trouble.

The students were also given helmets to go along with the bikes.

This was Academy Sports 15th year doing the bike donation. The outdoor retailer does more than 140 donation events just like this one across the state each December.
