A retired Macon educator celebrates her 100th birthday
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A woman in Macon, who taught grade school in the area for 40 years, celebrated her 100th birthday.
Carolyn Pitts joined a gathering in her honor at Vineville Methodist Church, and was gifted with a bouquet of flowers and cards from her former schools. There were a lot of familiar faces in attendance from the new centenarian’s teaching career.
“I’m just overjoyed,” she said, “I loved my co-workers very much and I love my children just like they were my own children.”
To put things into perspective, in the year of Pitts’ birth, Woodrow Wilson was the nation’s president, Babe Ruth was a rookie with the Boston Red Sox and the other Boston team, the Braves, won their first World Series title.
