Supply Drive Brings many teachers to town
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Teachers as far as Henry County came to town to get a bag of supplies, so they don’t have to dig into their own pocket to buy items for this school year.
The Macon Centreplex held a supply drive where Kroger gave teachers $40 work of supplies each for the school year.
Kelsey Napier is a teacher at Jeffersonville Elementary School in Twiggs County.
She couldn’t wait to get her hands on free items for her classroom.
“It makes me feel good to know that somebody appreciates what we do,” Napier said.
“Real classrooms are actually teacher funded and it’s nice that someone thinks about teachers enough to give us something for free that we can use to not only assist ourselves but assist our students,” she said.
Les Jones, the District Managet at Kroger, agreed with Napier. This drive helps both teachers and students.
“It’s a great thing because everything we sort of do, we try to do, most of the things are for the health and welfare of children,” Jones said. “We know this is going to benefit the children in our area. And every one of the people here are volunteers from Kroger that work in our stores.”
Napier said the drive is very helpful because sometimes she has to ask parents to bring supplies because she runs out quickly.
“Paper towels, sanitizer, kleenex, all of that is gone probably within the first month or so,” she said.
But with drives like this one, it makes things easier for Napier and it makes her feel appreciated.
“It makes me feel good because somebody is thinking about us. Sometimes teachers aren’t always appreciated as they should be,” Napier said. “We put in a lot of hard work day after day. When we go home work doesn’t stop! Our work continues when we leave that building everyday, so it’s good that somebody notices our hard work.”
And Kroger plans on continuing to show their appreciation, so teachers have one less thing to worry about in the classroom.
Kroger gave away $25,000 worth of supplies to teachers on Tuesday.
