Ask Angi: spring checklist

The most important maintenance projects to check off your list

It’s time to clear out the winter cobwebs and get ready for spring! Angie Hicks, Chief Customer Officer and Home Expert at Angi, is here to walk you through her spring maintenance checklist.

The beautiful spring weather is a great time to get outside and check to make sure everything is in great condition around your house. Walk around your house and look for things that need to be repaired or replaced or just spruced up. For example, you may want to power wash your patio or your siding, seal up cracks around windows and doors. If your front door is looking a little sad, a fresh coat of paint will have a big impact.

Make sure your roof, shingles and gutters are clean and in good condition after the harsh winter season. This is also the perfect time to trim your trees and shrubs and get your lawn ready for the upcoming growing season. With hot weather right around the corner that HVAC maintenance is important. Angi says, “…be sure that you’re not neglecting your HVAC unit. Change the filter, make sure it’s running, and if you haven’t already, schedule time with an HVAC pro to have it tuned up.”

Now is the time to check on the inside of your home as well. Inspect your attic, basement or crawl space for pest and water damage. If you notice anything out of the ordinary, call a local pro to take a look as soon as possible. You should also check your insulation levels and add more if necessary.

Don’t forget about your appliances this spring. Do a deep clean on your refrigerator, sump pump, washing machine and dryer, as well as your dishwasher. Make sure everything is in good working order.
