Houston County golfer named PGA Junior state player of the year

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –  A former baseball and basketball player in Houston County is taking a different path after falling in love with a new sport.

17-year-old Brent Hamm is enjoying life on the golf course these days.

“The big three–they can be fun but eventually to me they got kind of old,” Hamm said.

“Golf hasn’t gotten old.”

Hamm has been playing competitively for four years now but admits heBrent Hamm Award has plenty of room for improvement.

“Golf is so diverse,” he said. “Like, there’s so many different shots you have to hit, and it’s so hard. I feel like you can never be perfect in golf.”

He wasn’t perfect this year, but he did take Player of the Year honors on the Georgia PGA Junior Tour after finishing first in points.

“Golf, it’s just you. If you play good, you’re going to make it.”

So far, Hamm is making it. He’s embracing the sport for what it is and is now the reigning state champion.

“It made me feel really good,” he said. “It’s probably the biggest award I’ve gotten, so it was great.”

Hamm’s high school golf season starts in February.
