Macon Charter Academy employees says they’re not getting paid
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two weeks after the state board told Macon Charter Academy to close its doors by the end of the month, they are facing new issues.
“We’re just trying to figure out what in the world is going on,” says English Teacher April Minger.
August 31st is the last day of operation for Macon Charter Academy. The Georgia State Board of Education told MCA they had too much time to fix issues within the school and ordered them to close.
Now, there’s another issue.
“We’ve drove in from Atlanta, Bonaire all over the place to come and pick up our pay checks and we’re being told there’s no pay checks, substitute teacher Connie Braswell adds.
“Teachers showed loyalty, we showed up, we made sure the students were taught, so why are you treating us like the enemy,” Minger continues.
Some staff members say this is unfair and believe the responses they’ve received are lies.
Office Manager Mike McIntosh says he was told, “Just leave until this afternoon, write down your phone number and name and we will give you a call if checks come in. so basically at 4:30 or 5 o’clock when banks close, they want us to come and get our checks, which is not right.”
“When you work and you know that you went beyond what the average is and when you know that you gave the best of yourself and they know that you gave the best of yourself and then to turn around and say oh, well you’re not getting a paycheck and treated so casually and nonchalant that’s what the frustrating thing was i think for most of the teachers here,” Braswell explains.
Employees were told there was a meeting Wednesday afternoon to determine if checks would be distributed. 41NBC called the Bibb School Board and a spokeswoman says there was no meeting.
We also tried reaching out to MCA for a comment, but the school’s leaders refused to speak about the issue.
