Bibb DFCS honors Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – April is Childhood Abuse Prevention Month.

The Bibb County Department of Family and Children Services held a balloon release event this afternoon to remember victims of child abuse.

DFCS Director Shannon Fields said the department investigates about 150 reports of child abuse every month.

“They’re looking for a safe haven and, of course, we’re there to provide that safe haven for them. A lot of times we may go out, we may have children who are confused, who don’t know what’s going on. Some who have been traumatized,” explained Fields.

Bibb Juvenile Court Chief Judge Thomas Matthews was as special speaker at the event.
