Bibb deputies warn residents of “Endangered child” phone scam

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is warning Macon-Bibb residents of an “endangered child” phone scam.

A local business owner says he received a call from someone who claimed to be with a local electric company. The owner says the man complained that one of his workers had taken his child from the child’s mother and to a hotel. The caller then asked the owner to check on the child and make sure he was safe and well fed. He also stated that any money spent would be reimbursed.

The owner did not fall for the scam.

According the sheriff’s office, this was most likely an attempt to get the owner to a location to be robbed. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office performs welfare checks upon request.
