Disney on Ice visits children at Atrium Health Navicent
Mickey Mouse and performers visited young patients before six Disney on Ice shows at the Macon Coliseum this weekend.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Atrium Health Navicent teamed up with Disney on Ice this week to bring a little magic to the children’s hospital, with Mickey Mouse and skaters from the show visiting patients and staff in the hospital lobby.
Children were thrilled to meet Mickey, with families taking group photos in front of a Disney on Ice backdrop. Employees joined in the excitement as well, with skaters from the production on hand throughout the visit.
Cyndee Jones with Atrium Navicent said events like these are about giving hospitalized children a moment of joy when they need it most.
“The hospital isn’t always a fun place,” Jones said. “They’re here, they don’t feel well. And so we do things that we can to bring a smile when we can, to bring activities to them since they can’t go outside the walls of the hospital. So this is just a way for us to be able to share in something fun for them.”
Skater Allison Kymmell said visits like this are among the most rewarding parts of her job.
Disney on Ice has six shows this weekend at the Macon Coliseum.
Friday’s shows are at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturdays are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and Sunday’s are at 1 and 5 p.m.
